One Man’s Pollution is Another’s Soap Box

What cuts? That’s for more developed countries. The moral principle of historic responsibility cannot be washed away,” said Prakash Javadekar, India’s environment minister, the New York Times reports.

Yes, the developed countries polluted in the past, but what about the countries that do the most polluting today? The developed countries have greatly reduced their carbon emissions, but India and China are spewing millions of tons of carbon into the air today.

“In the winter of 2013, air pollution in New Delhi was 60 times higher than the level considered safe according to India’s Center for Science and Environment (CSE) and it had the highest rate of air pollution in the world according to WHO.”

You’d think India and China would want to reduce their pollution for the sake of their people. But, no, they’d rather have a drum to beat.
